Disability Categories
Children who qualify for special education services are children who are evaluated and found eligible for services under one of the following disability categories:
• Autism
• Deaf-Blindness
• Deafness
• Developmental Delay (DD) for ages 3-8
• Emotional/behavioral disability (EBD)
• Hearing impairments (HI)
• Mental Retardation (MR)
• Multiple Disabilities
• Orthopedic Impairment (OI)
• Other Health Impairments (OHI)
• Specific Learning Disability
• Speech or Language Impairment
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
• Visual Impairment (VI)
In order to receive special education services children must be at least 3 years old, but not yet 21, and not yet graduated from high school. This includes students who become 21 during the school year for the remainder of the year, not including summer school.
